Fibreglass Pool ResurfacingAdelaide

Gelcoat restoration, osmosis repair, and finishes that outlast paint by decades.

We are Adelaide's only specialist team for fibreglass pool resurfacing. We grind out osmosis, re-laminate failed substrate, and apply new long-life gelcoat systems — all under our rain-proof weather structures so your project stays on schedule.

Signs your fibreglass pool needs resurfacing

  • Gelcoat chalking or fading
  • Tiny blisters or bubbles in the surface
  • Rough or sandpapery patches
  • Spider cracks spreading across the shell
  • Colour no longer comes back after cleaning
  • Black or brown staining you cannot scrub off
  • Pool losing water with no obvious leak

Fibreglass Pool Resurfacing — Kidney Pool, Adelaide

A 1990s fibreglass kidney pool with heavy surface wear and faded colour. After full resurfacing by Blue Revive, the same shell is back to a vibrant, sparkling blue finish that will last 15+ years.

The osmosis problem

Most Adelaide fibreglass pools have it by 20 years old

Osmosis happens when water vapour pushes through the gelcoat and reacts with the laminate underneath. You see it as tiny blisters or bubbles that grow and pop.

Cheap fixes hide it temporarily. Paint covers it, plaster fills it. But within months the blisters push through again because the underlying moisture is still there. The only permanent fix is to grind out the affected laminate and re-lay fibreglass before applying new gelcoat.

That's how we do it on every job. It's slower and more expensive than a paint job — and it's the only approach that actually lasts.

Cheap fixes that fail

  • Pool painting— peels within 2–3 years and doesn't address osmosis at all
  • Patch & touch-up — lasts a season, then blisters return elsewhere
  • Sand & polish — fine for minor fading, useless for osmosis or deep staining
  • Epoxy overlays — adhesion issues on flexible fibreglass, typical 3–5 year lifespan
What you get

A fibreglass pool that looks and feels new

Osmosis stopped at the source

We grind out affected areas and re-laminate before the new surface goes on — the blisters don't come back.

Smooth, non-porous finish

Gelcoat and flowcoat give you a slick, sealed surface that resists algae and is easier to clean than plaster or paint.

15+ year lifespan

A proper gelcoat system outlasts five paint jobs. Stop repainting every 2–3 years and commit to it once.

Looks like new

Colour fidelity that stays true for years. No chalking, no fading under Adelaide UV, no patchy spots.

Our process

Six steps from tired to revived

01

Free on-site assessment

We inspect the existing gelcoat for osmosis, crazing, stress cracks and fading. You get a written quote with realistic numbers.

02

Drain and strip

We drain the pool, remove failing gelcoat and strip back to a sound substrate. Any loose material is removed before repair.

03

Osmosis and crack repair

Affected areas get ground out, re-laminated with resin and matting, and faired flat. Cracks are sealed with marine-grade resin.

04

Prep and prime

The whole shell is sanded, cleaned and primed. This is where 30+ years of surface-prep expertise really shows up.

05

Gelcoat application under cover

Our weather-protection structures go up and the new gelcoat system is applied in controlled conditions. No wind, no dust, no rain.

06

Cure, refill and hand-back

Full cure under cover, refill, chemistry balance and a final inspection. We walk you through aftercare before we leave.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Most fibreglass pool resurfacing projects fall between $14,000 and $18,000 in Adelaide. The price depends on pool size, the condition of the existing gelcoat, whether osmosis repair is needed and any structural work required. Use our cost estimator for a personalised range.
Osmosis is water vapour pushing through the gelcoat and reacting with the laminate underneath. You will see it as tiny blisters or bubbles under the surface that grow over time. It is incredibly common in older fibreglass pools and it can't be painted over — the blisters come back. The only real fix is to grind out the affected areas and re-laminate before applying a new gelcoat system.
You can, but it will fail. Fibreglass pools are especially hostile to paint — the smooth gelcoat offers nothing for a paint film to grip, and pool chemistry attacks coatings fast. We used to paint pools and watched about half of them fail within two to three years. Gelcoat or flowcoat resurfacing is the proper fix and it lasts 15+ years.
A typical fibreglass resurfacing project takes 5–8 working days. Drain and prep take 1–2 days, substrate repair 1–2 days, gelcoat application and cure 2–3 days, then refill. Our weather structures mean rain never delays any of this.
Yes. While the pool is drained we check the shell thoroughly for cracks, leaks and substrate delamination. Anything we find gets repaired before the new surface goes on. Fixing the surface without fixing the underlying issues is a waste of money.
Gelcoat comes in a wide range of blues, greens, whites and grey-blues. You can pick a classic Mediterranean blue, a modern grey-blue, a deep ocean tone or a bright lagoon. We will bring colour samples to the assessment so you can see them in natural light before committing.
